  1. As a next step, we think it would be helpful for you to look into four buildings. Two by Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen and two by Frank Harmon.

From your 1-3-9 we picked out the following things we want you to analyze in a methodical way. Pick one from each category. Take them apart, turn them over, don’t worry if you can’t get enough information just extrapolate from the photos.
    1. The architectural methods that these buildings use to reveal nature.
    2. Which elements emphasize or honor the site (plants, animals and rocks)
    3. What elements in the buildings allow the observer to feel as if they are still part of the outside world
    4. What elements in the buildings distance the observer from the outside world.
    5. Where do these buildings have a positive impact on the natural world?
    6. Where do these buildings have a negative impact on the natural world?
    7. Which aesthetic elements are driven by function.
    8. Draw a diagrammatic section of the buildings relationship/ attitude to the earth?
    9. Draw a diagrammatic section of the buildings relationship / attitude to the sky?
    10. How do the materials used in the building enhance or detract from its relationship to nature?

After you have done these 10 things for these four buildings – compare all of them.
    a) pick and choose the most successful elements in each of the projects that resonate the most with your thinking on thesis
    b) come up with an architectural rule or design guideline that reflects the design principle behind each element.
